How to convert CSV to OFX

  1. Download your transactions from your bank as a CSV file.
  2. Drop the CSV file in the box above and check the columns in the preview.
  3. Set the account type and number, then download the OFX file.
  4. Import the OFX file in your app, usually under Bank › Import statement.

What is an OFX file?

OFX (Open Financial Exchange) is the standard format banks use to send transactions to accounting software. It holds the account, the date range, each transaction with a unique ID, and the ending balance.

Xero, Sage, GnuCash, Moneydance, Microsoft Money and many others import OFX. QuickBooks and Quicken use special versions of OFX called QBO and QFX.

Tips for a clean import

  • If your CSV has a Balance column, the ending balance is added to the OFX file automatically.
  • For QuickBooks, use the CSV to QBO converter instead. QuickBooks expects the QBO version of OFX.

Frequently asked questions

Which OFX version does the tool create?

OFX 1.0.2 (SGML). It is the version most apps accept, including older desktop software.

What is the difference between OFX, QFX and QBO?

They are the same format. QFX is OFX for Quicken and QBO is OFX for QuickBooks; both add an Intuit bank ID line. Plain OFX works in most other apps.

Will importing the same file twice create duplicates?

Each transaction gets a stable unique ID (FITID) built from its date, amount and description. Most apps use this ID to skip transactions they already have.

Is it free?

Yes. The CSV, QIF, OFX and QBO converters are free with no sign-up and no limit on the number of transactions, because they run on your own computer. Our only paid tool is the PDF statement converter, which needs a server to read PDF files.

Is my bank data uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser. Your file is never sent to our server, and we cannot see it. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.
