How to convert CSV to QIF
- Download your transactions from your bank as a CSV file.
- Drop the CSV file in the box above and check the preview.
- Pick the date layout your app expects (US: month/day/year) and download the QIF file.
- In your app, use File › Import › QIF and choose the account.
What is a QIF file?
QIF (Quicken Interchange Format) is a simple text format for bank transactions. Each transaction has a date line (D), an amount line (T), a payee line (P) and ends with a caret (^).
Quicken for Windows imports QIF files into cash, credit card and some other accounts. Many other apps also accept QIF, including GnuCash, MoneyWiz, Banktivity, Moneydance, YNAB 4 and MYOB.
Tips for a clean import
- Quicken US expects dates as month/day/year. Quicken UK and most European apps expect day/month/year.
- For a credit card, choose "Credit card" as the account type so the file starts with !Type:CCard.
- Newer Quicken versions only import QIF into some account types. For a checking account in Quicken, a QFX file is usually the better choice.
Frequently asked questions
Which apps can import a QIF file?
Quicken (Windows and Mac, with limits by account type), GnuCash, MoneyWiz, Banktivity, Moneydance, iBank, YNAB 4, MYOB and many others. Check your app’s import menu for "QIF".
Which date format should I choose?
Choose month/day/year for Quicken US and most US apps. Choose day/month/year for UK, European and Australian versions. The preview shows how each date was read from your CSV.
Can I convert a CSV with Debit and Credit columns?
Yes. The tool combines them into one signed amount, which is what QIF expects.
Is it free?
Yes. The CSV, QIF, OFX and QBO converters are free with no sign-up and no limit on the number of transactions, because they run on your own computer. Our only paid tool is the PDF statement converter, which needs a server to read PDF files.
Is my bank data uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser. Your file is never sent to our server, and we cannot see it. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.
